Statement of solidarity with the people of Palestine

The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel has a case to answer for the charge of committing the crime of genocide. The UK government (and opposition) offer their continued support for Israel’s barbarous war and so we as individuals and organisations must make our opposition clear.  We advocate for international law to be implemented as a rule for all nations and peoples without exception. We stand against the killing of civilians and indiscriminate destruction of Palestinian infrastructure. We demand that our government end their military and political support for Israel’s actions and we call for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of Gaza’s crossings to allow humanitarian aid to enter unhindered.

The Slow Film Festival stands in solidarity with all oppressed people and rejects all forms of racism. It is for this reason that we are supporting the call for Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) to be imposed on Israel until it complies with international law.

As a cultural organisation we will be observing the call to cultural boycott issued by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). We commit to not giving cultural cover to apartheid.

This is a boycott against complicit institutions not individuals. We will still consider films made in Israel provided they were not commissioned by an official Israeli body. For full details of the PACBI please visit: https://bdsmovement.net/pacbi/cultural-boycott-guidelines
