Artist Masterclass with Tony Hill

Join us for an in-person masterclass with experimental filmmaker Tony Hill, whose short film Laws of Nature appears in the Landscape programme. Born in London in 1946, Tony Hill studied Architecture and Sculpture and makes experimental short films that are somewhere between sculpture and cinema. He has been working as an independent film-maker since 1973, usually taking on all aspects of production and often developing and building his own equipment. He also works with installations, photography and sound. He has consistently applied his interest in space, place, viewpoint and orientation to his practice as an artist and film-maker. His bizarre and sometimes humorous vantage points make us rethink our assumptions about perspective, gravity, scale and movement. Developing his own camera rigs and ingeniously using mirrors and unusual lenses he exploits the great potential for film to see in different ways, to show us the world afresh. In this event we will delve into Tony’s formally innovative approach to filmmaking through screenings of his work and discussion with the artist himself.
